1.) Parabens

Moreover, it can contribute to the aggravation of acne—particularly cystic acne around the chin and mouth.

5.) Polyethylene/ PEGS

The minuscule plastic little beads commonly found in a wide array of beauty scrubs, exfoliating washes and toothpaste may look innocent enough. But apart from exacerbating non-recyclable refuse issues, these synthetic chemicals are often contaminated with 1.4 dioxanes (classified as a human carcinogen by the U.S. government). Kaya ini-enjoy na lang daw ng pamosong doktora ang kanyang istado ngayon. Kasama na roon ang pagpapakasal niya (via Christian wedding this time sa Paris, nagpakasal na kasi sila via civil rites in the Philippines) kay Hayden Kho recently.

Someone whsipered to me na nagmula raw sa ovary ang sanhi ng sakit ni Dra. Belo na umakyat sa kaniyang breast and she had to undergo chemotherapy for a time. She used to wear wigs before pero ngayon daw ay natural hair na niya ang tumubo. Di ba, pag bumalik na ang hair ng isang cancer-stricken ay pagaling na siya? So why worry pa?

“Case to case iyan. Yung kay Dra. Vicki, ang balita namin may taning na. Kawawa naman, di ba? Iyan ang mahirap sa Big C kasi kahit gaano pa karami ang pera mo ay talagang titirahin ka niya. Magagamot ka for a while pero babalik at babalik talaga iyan. Sana it doesn’t hold true kay Dra. Belo, sana gumaling siya,” sabi ng isang concerned friend niya.

Matagal ko na ring narinig from some very reliable sources ang tungkol sa cancer ni Dra. Belo pero ayaw naming seryosohin. Lalo naming ipinagdasal na gumaling siya because she has been very kind to us. In fairness to her, she is very generous sa mga taga-showbiz, she extends support in whatever way she can basta kailangan mo siya.

Sosyal lang ang babaeng iyan pero maganda naman ang puso. Kaya kita niyo naman, her business is being patronized by many kasi nga, magaling talaga siyang dermatologist. Kaya napakarami ang nalungkot sa nakarating na balitang may taning na raw ang buhay niya. But you know, miracles happen, Diyos lang ang tanging nakakaalam kung hanggang kailan tayo sa mundong ito.

We pray that Dra. Vicki Belo lasts much, much longer. Sana mawala na ang cancer niya. Puwede naman iyon pag ginusto ni Lord, di ba?

A growing trend of paraben-free products is sprawling the market. What are Parabens?

In 2017, the makeup culture has become more prominent than ever. With contouring sticks, highlighting powders, magic concealers to a myriad of foundations, women who have a penchant for makeup are in no shortage when it comes to a variety of cosmetic products. But as with most beauty products, most cosmetics have a shelf-life and are likely to breed to bacteria due to prolonged use. To address this, many cosmetic companies have started incorporating parabens into their beauty products to preserve them and prevent bacteria growth.

Parabens have been widely used since its advent in the 1950’s. In fact, most cosmetic products contain them. However, it is not until recently that the cosmetic ingredient has garnered so much criticism and vilification. While they have a long history of safe use, new preservatives are not yet proven to have the same track record—especially when more than one form of the ingredient is used in a product. Some of the most common paraben products are propylparaben, methylparaben, and butylparaben. In the nineties, it has been found that parabens have agents that mimic estrogen in the body and 2004, it was associated with malignant breast tumors which gave the cosmetic ingredient a bad reputation.

However, while parabens have been linked to a strain of cancer, it has also been shown that the presence of parabens in tumors does not prove that it was the primary cause of the cancer which renders the study moot. Considering that there is no concrete scientific evidence to support the link between parabens and any form of cancer, it would be unfair to dismiss products with this cosmetic agent as unsafe. However, it would bode you well to be cautious and mindful. If you want to play safe, you can opt for cosmetic products that are paraben free or those that use oil-based products that do not contain water (as the usage of water necessitates a preservative). Alternatively, you can also use products that use parabens in limited quality.
